If you ask why was Jesus killed, the answer isn’t ‘because God wants us to love one another.’ Why in the hell would anyone kill Jesus for that? That’s stupid. It’s not even interesting. Why did he get killed? Because he challenged the powers that be. The church is a political institution calling people to be an alternative to the world. That’s what the cross is about.

It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived.

Let us not forget that before Christianity was a faith and a culture, it was a movement WITHIN a faith and a culture. In that sense, Jesus is the epitome of counter-culture.

I can’t, for the life of me, imagine that God would say ‘I will punish
you because you are black, you should have been white; I will punish you
because you are a woman, you should have been a man; I punish you
because you are homosexual you ought to have been heterosexual.’ I can’t,
for the life of me, believe that that is how God see things.Archbishop Desmond Tutu -
Not sure what this is what Jesus had in mind when he told us to take up our cross

Decisions.
I was asked today if my ministry ever yields “decisions”.
For those of you not familiar with North American Christian culture, a “decision” is more like an emotional response to a guilt driven perversion of the gospel that, with any luck, leads to a little more money for the church.
Now, before you make up your mind that I’m bitter or jaded or whatever else, please understand that I am ALL ABOUT people dedicating to follow Jesus. “Bitter” implies that I do not believe a change can happen. Well, I BELIEVE IN CHANGE and I believe in making decisions FOR CHRIST.
A decision for Christ is a decision to follow Him and bring His Kingdom to our hurting world. It is not a decision to get yourself into Heaven because frankly, that would be making a decision for YOU not for Jesus.
What I propose is that we begin to look at decisions, not as one-time GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARDS but rather as dedications to follow.
In the Gospel, Jesus asks a rich young man to sell everything he owns, give it to the poor and then follow him. He doesn’t tell him to say a little prayer and give ten percent of his money to a church he visits once or twice a week. He wants disciples, he wants radically devout workers, he wants you to give it all up for something much better. This is the kind of decision that God is looking for, this is how you may see the Kingdom.
Does my ministry yield “decisions”?
I pray that it does.

When you live a day in which the primary focus is not your own comfort, satisfaction and preservation, you will have lived a day as an adult.

In honor of THE PASSION WEEK, here is my favorite scene from Mel Gibson’s THE PASSION in which Jesus invents the dining room table….I heard there is also a deleted scene in which he invents the SEGA GENESIS.
